So i signed up for the literature test in june.... and i haven't really done anythign to prepare for it. I've just been EXTREMELY busy with school, especially now with finals looming ahead. How should I prepare? I'm in AP lit, and my CR score on the sat was great, so should I do more than take a few practice tests?

My friend, who is in honors english (not even AP) took it this may and scored a 750. She said she didn't even prepare one bit. Her CR score is in the high 600s.

So, in my opinion, if you're in AP lit, have a high CR score, then taking a few practice tests should be PLENTY for you.

You should be fine. Although make sure you have practice and skill in interpreting poetry/drama/prose. So even though you're in AP lit and such, make sure to take practice tests and get a feel for the exam.

what if i'm in AP lang? would i still be in good shape?

AP language doesn't cover much poetry/drama. You need to be familiar with poetry terminology and interpreting the passages. You can read that in any review book.
S in AP language got 670 but said the poetry part killed him. He didn't study at all though.

My advice? Don't take it.

I haven't gotten below an A- on an essay since first quarter in AP Lang, edit the school paper (if that counts for anything), have a fantastic vocabulary, and got an 800 CR.

I got a 740 on Lit.

Okay, it's not horrible or anything, but it's my lowest score to date. I'm mad.

All I did to prepare was take a bunch of practice tests. You need to be familiar with the format of the exam and make sure you're a fast enough reader. You should take enough practice tests that as you're reading, you're able to predict that there will be questions about certain things. Then you're ready.

try to get the barron's sat 2 lit book....it's seriously amazing. the examples of literature are great, and there are tonz of practice questions in each chapter. there's also a great list of terms and definitions. it shows you how you should be thinking and reading critically and gives you plenty of practice.

i went through about half of it starting two weeks before the test and did 2-3 practice tests (all of which i got 80% or below on, lol).

i totally thought i would fail given my practice test raw scores, but I ended up with a 780 on the real exam in may!

I didn't study at all and I got a 780, compared with my 730 in CR. The only thing I wish I'd known was some of the terms (hyperbole, apostrophe, etc.). But obviously that didn't hurt too much :)

I agree with the above, did better on the Lit Test than CR. I think if you did well on CR you'll be fine I mean if you're aiming for an 800, you need to study but you should be able to get above a 700. I think what both of them really test is kinda more natural...you can practice reading all the poems you like and it helps somewhat but those same poems won't be on the test. It's your ability to understand things you read and I AP Lit and a good CR score should mean you're pretty good at that.

I did a few questions in Kaplan, but no real practice tests, got a 760.

@ princessbell-- i'd be content with a 740. I mean, I'm aiming for higher, but I wouldn't be upset.
Thanks for all the advice!
