lit/journ publications at wes

i'm really involved w/ journ/lit writing at my hs, editor on paper, blah blah, so i was wondering what kind of publications wes offers, including radio, mags, yearbooks, etc.

also, is any student here majoring in eng? i would like to know how the eng dep is.

thanks all if you can answer any of the above.

The Wesleyan Argus is the school newspaper, and is published twice a week. I'd definitely describe it as being student-oriented - it's made to interest students with relevant opinions and stories as opposed to being a very professionally journalistic paper. The readership is quite high, however. You can read it online at www.wesleyanargus.com

There's also a radio, that's pretty easy to get into if you want to. You can listen to it online at http://wesufm.org

There are gazillions of various other literary publications; Adlit, Fat Bottom, the Diplomat, and so many more. Poetry, political, short story, humor... you can really find most anything, though the readership probably isn't as ubiquitous as with the Argus. However, if you're interested in humour magazines, there's a weekly humour section in the Argus called the Ampersand.

As for the English department, I'm not an English major... I think the best way to judge is by looking at the courses. http://www.wesleyan.edu/course/englc.htm There are also other literature classes in other departments (ie. Russian in translation, French and Spanish in translation). Watch out, though - wesmaps is fun to procrastinate on :P
