LIT LIT!! (SAT II Literature thread)

ahh who else found this entirely time consuming sort of..and confusing? I thought it was worse than the October SAT II's.

Things I was unsure about..

how did the author view relationships in the island poem?

"severence God" something like that...there was a vocab word something to do with "look over, guard" and asked to pick the word best fitting..

what did you guys think?

Aughhhh God. I didn't even get to finish the island poem section. I think I got to like number 55. Then I left a few more blank before that. I only answered 47 out of 61.

This test kicked my butt.

That test was a lot less than fun.

I had no time to check my answers and was totally rushed at the end. Also, there were a lot of times when I was having to choose between like 3 answer choices because they all seemed equally right to me.

How frustrating.

I know. I hope the curve is generous because I have no idea what I was doing half the time.

that relationships question totally threw me off..can you remind me of the choices??...maybe i'll remember what i put then...and yeah i was sooooooo rushed...

I'm so mad...I think I did so bad on this test. I might even cancel the score, and try a retake in Dec. Last time I was sick when I took it so my score is a 560!!! :( I really need to figure out a way to beat this test! What do you think I need on this test to get into the UC's? (I have a 710 Writing, 630 Math IC (thinking about retaking) Please answer I'm freaking out (I'm in-state by the way and I'm applying to almost all of the UC's but I really want to get into UCSD and UCSB)

Yeah, i thought this test was rediculously hard... I got a 700 last time, but I think I got like a 590 this time... Heh.

The douglass poem was easy, and one of the passages was an exerpt from "the yellow wallpaper" - that one was easy as well.

I had to guess on a whole bunch of them because I didn't finish in time... I think the curve will be very lenient.

I hope the curve will be VERY lenient. Good to know I'm not alone. Anyone else taken it and have comments?

What was the answer to the one referring to the line about the estranged sea?

Everyone, start posting your questions! I'd like to see how i did ;)

i think i put strength and secuirty.....

the question was that line represents all of the following except? or something...

the answer choices were all one word.

ohhh....was it daunting? i have no clue

What was the answer to that question on the spiderweb passage about...something about oh yeah the last question, saying that "the phrase 'empty corners of our attic and living room' could be interpreted as all of the following EXCEPT:"

the physical representation (or something) of a fantasy

the way the past and present mesh

I don't remember the other answers. My brain is fried.

i think i put the physical representation..cuz the other choice about past and present only said that the past makes up the present....where in the passage, it said something like past makes up present and present makes up past

^^^
I think I put the physical representation. But I might have changed it, or I changed something else to physical representation. I can't remember.

That lit test was hard! I really couldn't move as quickly as I would have liked, and got quite confused over several of those questions.

UCaliGirl9, I wouldn't worry about getting into UCSB as long is your SAT I score is decent, like 1200 something, and your gpa is around 3.8. For UCSB, the mean SAT II composite score (all three added together) is 1753. This was for the 2003 Freshman class, so it probably was a little higher this year. With your to scores you only need to get a 550 on lit and you'd be well over 100 points higher than the average. UCSD is harder though, and I don't know the mean SAT II composite score.

Moocow- Don't worry too much about feeling like you didn't do well until you get your scores. I retook it after a 750 (no flaming, long story...I wasn't even dissatisfied with this score, but I thought I needed to take 2 since I'd signed up for 2, and I wanted to back out of my math retake), and I felt like it had gone terribly. I rushed through the end because I was sitting where I couldn't see the clock and I had no idea how much time was left. It seemed so hard, and I was sure I'd gotten such a low score, only to get a 770 two weeks later. Don't worry until you have scores :).

I put that the sea was isolating. Also that God decreed the severance.

Does anyone remember what the main conflict of the longer poem was (answer choices were joy vs. sadness, country vs. city, etc.)?

Any other questions you remember regarding that passage?

I put country vs. city... the narrator was trying to say how nice the country was and how the girl loved the country etc... This test was so much harder than the practice tests I took. I'm really relying on a very nice curve. All I want is 700+.

In fact, all 3 SAT II's I took today were especially hard.... writing, lit, and history. What sucks is that I haven't taken SAT II's before and these are going directly to Yale for early action. Blehh
