I’m planning on taking the SAT test on literature in November, and was wondering if anyone could offer any tips. I have only done the practice questions on the website, which weren’t too difficult, but plan on doing some practice tests next weekend. I don’t know if there’s any correlation between CR and Lit scores, but I got an 800 in CR. But I feel like I don’t really know old, archaic English very well at all. What do I need to know? How important are literary terms on the test? Will reading some Shakespearean literature help me out at all? How hard is it to get at least a 700 on the test for most people?
I’m taking it in november and did really well on CR as well! I have a friend who is like a competition-winning writer but she still said she didn’t do very well on the lit exam (yikes). unfortunately, i think it does have a lot of the older more technical literary analysis lingo but probably nothing too fancy - just know like metaphor, alliteration, the basics
I took the test last May, and was able to get a 770 without any studying at all. That said, I think the quality of your lit/English class really plays into your score. I took it at the end of the first year of IB English HL, which taught me a lot about specific techniques and approaches used in literature.
Are you in a rigorous, challenging class that’s teaching you how to analyze literature? That’s going to be your best help. Otherwise, I would say to definitely brush up on your lit terms.
The poetry’s a killer for me.
I took without prep and didn’t do so hot.
Retaking in Nov and will use Kaplan book over the next 2 weeks.
And I’m doing good in AP Lit this semester too.
