Literary examples in the Essay

<p>After reading a bit about the SAT essay, I've found that many people suggest using at least on example from some literary work in the essay. I don't really see the point.
How does the fact that some occurence in a work of fiction, and in many cases, a rather rediulous work of fiction, supports your thesis, bear any weight? The way I see it, convincing example should be based on fact, not literature.

<p>I had the same question. All a literary example shows is that a particular writer agrees with you. But many high scoring essays use literary examples so you won’t be penalized for using one.</p>
