Literary/Historical Examples for SAT ESSAY: how are you using these examples?

<p>After searching topic on CC, I found some examples that are great for sat essays, so thanks guys ;)
BUT, many people have said blahblahblah is VERY good for the essays, however they don't describe HOW we can use them....
soooo, can someone tell me HOW i can use these examples (which apparently are REALLY good examples, according to the CCers :) )?

<p>MLK- he can really fit for anything. Perserverence, determination, and lots of others. Name a topic and he can prob fit.
Gandhi- Same as MLK
Catcher in the rye- Holden Caulfields journey, he lost and sacrificed a lot to realize what he wanted.
Gatsby- Gatsby was a rich dude but wasnt really happy. </p>
