Literature and Panic

I have no idea what to do right now. I am pretty much freaking out and in tears.

I bought Barron's book for the Literature subject test a while ago, but didn't get to work through it right away. In the past month, I took its diagnostic test and ran through all the information it provided on the literary elements. Tonight, I took the second diagnostic test.

I scored 37 the first time, 35 the second time.

What is this.
That's barely a 500 or something, right?
I scored a 800 on cr in March, so I thought I would do at least decent on this subject test. I guess not D:<

What do I do now? Is it even possible to get my score up to a 750+ by June 4th? I'm in IB, so I'm going to be terribly busy by October, and I don't have AP exams to help me for other subject tests.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa help ;_;

bump 10char

Have you taken Math II?

Yes, but I need one more subject test.

Do you have another test to take? I’ve heard Literature test is hard but for some students it’s easier than others.

I’m considering taking US history and Lit on the same day.
I’m actually heading off to the bookstore in a few minutes to take a history practice test just to get a feel for it and see if it’s a good idea. However, because I take IB courses, I’m not adequately prepared for these tests. (IB approaches literature through an international perspective and approaches history through analysis rather than solely facts and presidents.)

It doesn’t seem like many take the lit subject test. I can imagine why, but I’m still surprised no one has been able to help.

Stop freaking out. You definitely have time to prepare by June. I’m taking this test TOMORROW and I just got a review book today (not that I advocate doing this, but I’ve had AP tests…). The lit test is pretty difficult but it won’t take that long to memorize literary devices and such that you need to know.

the poetry is what gets me. i signed up for lit but im not even touching it tomorrow. lol

My daughter took this test and she scored near 800 with very little prep. However, she is a literature major in college so she loves literature and all that stuff. Not sure if everybody has the same strength.

I’m also taking the test on 4th june. Can your daughter give us some quick tips for Literature preparation? I’m not a literature student. I’m getting “tone” related questions wrong. Don’t know what might help? Any online material?
PLEASE PLEASE help.

Suggestion to future Literature-takers:
Don’t start with Barron’s. It’ll kill your confidence. Unless you enjoy beginning with more difficult tests and later working with easier tests, as I do. In the last month, I competed both Barron’s and Kaplan. Last night, I did the official CB published test, and I can say that I’ve improved significantly.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

Yeah, Barron’s has definitely killed my confidence for this test tomorrow…I scored 800 on CR in March so I thought I would be ok, but then I got the Barron’s book and haven’t been doing very well on the tests at all. I’m pretty nervous for tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

I’m pretty confused about the curve. I’ve been hearing usually only -2 or -3 is 800, but in my Kaplan book -6 is still 800.

Also, is it true that if you take 2 tests on the same day that you have to send both of them?

metalliyanks - The Kaplan’s curve is a bit strange. But keep in mind that it contains more questions per practice test. When comparing the Kaplan’s scaled score on my practice tests and the scaled score from the official CB practice test, I realized they were fairly equivalent. And yes, you do have to send everything from the same day.

Literature is superfluous for me at this point… I’ve got the book but I didnt really make use of it… thankfully I’m taking AP lit next year so it’s not a complete waste.

Are you sure you’re right little penguin regarding score choice?
“Students can select which scores they send to colleges by test date for the SAT and by individual test for SAT Subject Tests™.”
