Literature Curve Discrepancy- prep books vs. official

I was at Barnes and Noble looking at SAT 2 Literature prep books, but the books provide different curves!

Kaplan: you can miss five and still get an 800
i.e.
800
800
800
800
800
800
800
790
780

Official Blue Book: you can miss two and still get an 800
i.e.
800
800
800
790
780

Why is there a discrepancy? Kaplan claims they study the official test to design their practice tests - so shouldn't the curves be identical?

Thanks in advance.

I think you can only miss two to still get an 800 so the Official Guide is likely accurate.

There is no strict number of questions you can miss to get an 800 - it varies between sittings. In recent times I believe it has ranged from missing 2 to missing 4.
