LitHum/FoS/UW

Since we're going to be freshman, I've heard that we are preregistered for these automatically before we even get on campus--- my question is, do we get to pick which SECTION (instructor) we get or are we stuck with whoever they stick us with?

you cant pick but if you can prove a scheduling problem you can get the section changed (tho you cant pick that one either)

first semester freshman year you probably won't be able to prove a scheduling problem since most of the classes you will be taking will be lectures with multiple sections or they won't buy the fact that you need to take a class NOW rather later.

Now this may be out of date, because someone was saying that they changed something about the process for this year's freshmen (I don't remember what), but if you take UW first semester, you pick your section for Frontiers for the spring, or vice versa. And if you hate your LitHum section in the fall and can't switch right away, you can switch for the spring semester.

that isnt a change in policy at all....after first semester you are on your own to pick whatever you want including changing your lit hum section during the registration period but you must be very careful with that or else you might end up high and dry with no lit hum section.

Keep in mind though, that they don't release the names of the UW and Fronteirs instructors until after registration to prevent people from picking sections based on that.

I can't speak for LitHum/Fos/UW, but I can tell you that swiching in and out of AHum and MHum classes is quite easy as both remain on the online system through the first week of classes. However, the core office can over tally, and often does as students have an additional week if they choose to drop the course. At any rate, students unable to secure a spot online (when the bulletin rolls over and says "Full") can go through the core office and fill out a sheet allowing them to be added manually through the office (meaning you'll see something strange on the bulletin like 19 students with an 18 student limit).

I know that given the volume of requests the core office receives, it does not verify individual schedules. Instead, it places students in sections based on a top selection of time slots (I think the office requests five possible times). That being said, I know there are forms for the other core classes, so it's probably possible that you can squeal your way into a different section. I know someone in CC that was able to move his LitHum section online (or so I've been told) when somehow an opening was spotted on the system. He claims that hitting "replace" with the new course call number did the trick.

If you email around (like email those grad students and professors directly), you can sometimes find out which section a given instructor will be leading.
