Hello,
I applied for Computer Science major and got accepted to College of Science and Engineering, but it doesnt mention Computer Science as a major anywhere.
Is it normal or was I not selected for that major?
@ChampBoy The tracker notification doesn’t list the major on my D’s acceptance either - just the college as you mentioned. From this article it looks like students complete technical requirements at UMN first before applying to their major. http://www.advising.cse.umn.edu/cgi-bin/courses/noauth/apply-major-statistics From the article about 90% are admitted to CS if they maintain 2.4 GPA or higher. Congrats on the acceptance!
Another link regarding the timeline for application to major:

@Banker1 Thank you Sir , the information was very helpful. So basically, we have to wait a semester and take the general courses and then we can apply for our Major ?
The timing is confusing. I had started a similar thread last month and one of the mom’s mentioned that usually you apply to the major during Fall semester of sophomore year.
I think if you find your major and click on the 4-year plan document for it then it will make more sense.
The admission to major is competitive but seems much more fair than some other colleges. U of Washington for example admits 1000 freshmen for CS. After a couple years you apply to the program and they have space for only 300. No thanks!
Just to clarify, the reason you specify a major on the application for admission is two-fold: 1) they want to hear your plans and goals and make sure you’ve given some thought to your college career; and 2) they want to make sure you apply to the college that offers that major! 2nd one very important! Also, It’s possible, once admitted, that you decide you do NOT want to do computer science, but physics or chemistry or engineering, and that’s ok. You aren’t bound to the CS major just because you specified it on the application.
