little help here

i want to transfer to usc or ucla for either communication or psyc major..but my gpa is pretty low..it's only 3.5, is communication going to be easier to get in or psyc?
ec: 4 yrs internship, 2yrs volunteer, salesrepresentative, 2yrs as psyc group tutor, speech contest first place.
GE and major requirements all finished

2-3 recommendation letter

I just graduated from h.s this year, but i have been taking cc classes, so I'm thinking to transfer as a junior in 08fall to skip a year, but i wonder is there going to be a bigger chance to get in if i transfer as a soph instead a junior?

thanks!

You need to list your personal stats if you want a more targeted response. For UCLA - Are you a California resident? That makes a huge difference. Are you/will you be attending a California community college?

Most of the UCs only look at junior transfers. You will need to research each of your target schools specifically. Just visit their website and read their transfer pages. You would have to look up USC specifically as well on what their preferences are about transfer students.

A few websites to read and get very familiar with

[University of California Systemwide Home](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/welcome.html)

[UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students, Fall 2008](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof08.htm)

From the last link (UCLA transfer stats)
average GPA of admit in Communications is 3.89 (13.74% of those applied got in)
average GPA of admit in Psych is 3.67 (33.92% of those applied got in)

Frankly - with those kinds of low admits for transfers in those majors at UCLA- you should definitely have a safety targeted. Even those who meet or exceed the average GPA should also have their safety targeted!

I don’t know enough about your ECs, nor what these colleges look for in terms of ECs for your major to know if they will be enough of a hook.

Psych and Communications are both impacted majors at UCLA. Regardless of which one is easier to get into UCLA with, it is important to pick the one you have more passion for. To change your major to either Psych or Communications once you reach UCLA is INCREDIBLY difficult and you will waste more time going through red tape than the average admitted transfer student.

if you’re a California resident, your HS GPA does not matter. You do not need SAT scores or letters of recommendation. However, this ONLY applies to UCLA and all other UC’s. For USC, you will be jumbled in with the other applicants.

If you wish to transfer in a year, you must complete 60 semester units/90 quarter units by Spring 2009.
