Little Old Lady

Well, I was at the shopping mall..and we were at the cash counter (my dad and my 2 brothers).

It was our turn in line..so we approached the cashier and were unloading all the goods, when I looked to my left and saw this little old lady(LoL) unloading all her shopping items from her trolley.

She was with her granddaughter and daughter...and well..the daughter was helping the LoL move the goods towards the cashier but the granddaughter was way too small to help carry the stuff. So it was just this LoL unloading all the goods from the trolley..she would hobble, bend and carry the item..and give it to her daughter and I just stood there thinking..should I help this lady or should I not?

I mean..she didn't know me..and she might have felt a little insulted if I offered to help...some old women really have a lot of self-respect for themselves. But on the other hand..I could've actually saved her a lot of trouble.

Anyway...by the end of it..I just stood there thinking..and she had already unloaded her stuff.

I felt really stupid. Now when I see another LoL...I'm not going to have any second thoughts..

Anyway,I was just wondering. What would you guys have done?

ask if you can help! nobody will fault you for being friendly, as long as you say it in a pleasant tone. if she has that much self-respect that she can't accept your help, then she will say so (hopefully in as pleasant a tone as you), and that's that.

Exactly what katie said.

i worked at the grocery store on a military base and there would always be many elderly retirees and their spouses. i would always offer to help. LoL usually accepted or said "no, but thank you for asking". of course the LoMen would say "No, i got it" in a sort of offended way. oh well, its their back, not mine.

but yeah, always offer to help in a nice way.
