Little to no Community Service

I really want to go to a college/university like Washington University in St. Louis, Northwestern, or maybe even one of the Ivy Leagues (esp. Harvard). I have good test scores (2350 on the new SAT), am pretty involved in several activities at my school, and play violin outside of school. However, I really haven't done any community service. I am going to be a senior this year so I don't really have any time to put in a lot of hours of service. Do I still have any chance of getting in to the schools I mentioned above?

I don't think that it will kill you if you really dedicated yourself to your other activities.

no community service will hurt you when applying to the schools on the highest shelf...unfortunately for you, that's any Ivy plus Amherst, Swarthmore, and Williams

However, WashU and Northwestern will probably be more forgiving (by comparison) as long as you are keeping busy with other activities

How much is considered "not enough" community service? Among all the years in high school, I have had about 100 hours total, but I hope to get another 100 hours throughout senior year alone (I don't think it will affect me much, since a lot of the hours will probably be after admissions.. oh well). Any opinions? Thanks

200 is enough IMO

Every year I participate in Food drives for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I go around my family and collect many can goods. Then I also do tutoring at my school for free. Is this considered community service. I do many little things but I don't know if it is really considered community service.

Yeah, the tutoring is considered to be community service, since there is no money involved. I know students that have done something similar at my school, and it was considered to be community service.

If community service is just a number shoved in to make yourself look better, whether it's 20 or 200, it probably won't do much for you or increase your chances by much.

Community service is overrated.

Most kids at my high school have under 10 hours of community service in their HS career, hasn't really stopped them from getting accepted to top schools.

i think its funny that community theater is community service...as long as you arent paid...
