Over the last year and a half at my cc I've done almost no ECs. How is this going to affect me?? Church work and some tutoring (paid btw by my school) are the onlythings I have to put down> ;( Can't I just make up crap???

50% of common apps get background checked by hired staff so making up stuff = chance of getting auto-rejected.

What do you suggest I do then? I don’t have much time to start doing any now; no one ever told me EC was mandatory.

Which UC are you trying to get in to?

weird so this just came up today in the uc workshop I was just in. The lady said even if you didn’t have much volunteering, but had atleast a part time job then that would be good…and if you could weasel in how you didn’t have the time or whtever to pursue volunteering in your personal statements then that would also be swell. I think they just want to see you doing SOMETHING other than school.

@grimes99 Im applying to any higher teir UC. UCLA, UCB,SD, Irvine. I can either transfer as an English major or a math major (as long as i pass linear algebra this semester and differental equations the next), because I have the pre-reqs done for both majors.
Oh and my gpa is 3.68 with all classes, transferable or not.

Oh thanks redo! I do work part-time and I do community service at my Church; I hope this will be enough. I’ve seen some crazy EC lists on this site, so I am just confused at how high the bar is for EC.

i just also read somewhere about the breakdown being 50% gpa, 35% PS, and 15% ECs

so dont worry so much about if you have ENOUGH ecs, worry if you can transform them into ah-mazing essays!!

UCLA and UCB will look at it. UCSD won’t since they don’t do comprehensive reviews. Irvine does comprehensive i believe, but with a 3.86 you’re in there no matter what.

Oh okay thanks! Yeah, I’m definitely going to write an amazing personal statement essay to even it out.

@Grimes99, my gpa is 3.68, not 3.86; thats going to be a big difference isn’t it?

English and math to Irvine? Yeah, you’re in. Neither of those are impacted (I don’t think) and UCI took everyone down to a 2.8 last year in non-impacted majors.

What if you have an EC to mention but you are just starting to do it right now?

@Wingspan: Include it on your app.

List anything you might have, even if you have little. Check out [UC Transfer FAQ](http://www.uctransferfaq.com) blog for some good suggestions also.

Hi Russiky! How’s haas? which courses are hard? which are easy?

Haas is awesome! Having a great time here. Really depends on you in regards to the courses.

Investment! I saw your name at the top of the Berk rep visit sign in sheet today. (atleast i hope it was you, lol… i dont know how many ppl have your name) nonetheless, it made me mentally nod my head in approval :]

Does music count as an EC for UCB?
If I say that I have been playing violin for my school orchestra for 6 years, and a community orchestra for 2-3 years, does this count as EC?

Of course music counts! :D

The Extracurricular Activities section includes hobbies!! Just tell them what you like to do! They want to know how you spend your time!
