little tricks on the act, everyone post

Lets all start posting little tricks we have found on the Act. I will start

English Section:

In a passage, when you come to an underlined part that is redundant, for example "rare and unique" The answer will always be the choice with one word. like "rare"

On the act english section, you will never have to fix two things in an underlined portion, as long as its not obvious. For example, "Tims car" The answer choices would read
"Tim's, car"
Tim's car,"
"Timmies car,"
"Tim's car"

Once you fix it, its done, don't waste your time trying to make the other answer choices work. When i notices this, I was able to move through the english section much faster.

The ACT isn't really full of tricks like the SAT is. It's pretty straightforward. Just know the fundamentals and practice well enough...work especially on timing. That's really all there is to it.

On the E test, they give you so much more time than on either the R test or the S test.

Most people here can finish the E test in 35 min.

in the sci test, dont read passages- you dont need them to interpret graphs.

*Except for the one reading passage (sci experiment passages) which I always skipped ahead to do first.

i know! i wish i could take some of the english time and distribute it to the science and reading !!!!!

I always have much more time than I need in English, while not enough on Reading, Science, and sometimes Math as well.

Yeah definitely don't waste time reading all of the science experiment set-ups. Just go back and look through for what the question asks. If you read it from the beginning all you'll do is confuse yourself and waste time.

I wish I'd known that before I took it! I wasted SO much time reading the first passage on the science section. After that, I realized you didn't even need to read them at all. What a waste!
Not like I can complain though, I got a 36 in science :)
