LIU Post Decisions!!

Hi guys!! I just wanted to clarify… people are starting to get their LIU Post decisions today and mine said acceptance into the Theatre Arts BFA and goes on to talk about their musical theatre program and reputation. I just wanted to be sure since it doesn’t explicitly say MT concentration that it is for MT? I only applied to MT! Thanks!

Yes you have been accepted to the MT BFA program. My D got the same snail mail letter today and we have email confirmation that it is for MT BFA. Congrats to you!

Congratulations to both of you @mtAllDayEveryday and to your daughter @NeensMom Very exciting. LIU Post in on my son’s list, he is a junior and just getting started, but he have heard wonderful things about their program.

@Sonnie323 Thank you! You are so smart to get started this year! We didn’t get started until the Fall of her senior year and we felt really behind. If I could do it again, I would have had her do Moonifieds for audition coaching and early auditions and/or Broadway Artists Alliance for coaching/workshops and professionally done prescreens. My D did not have any audition coaching or help with her monologues. She does have a voice teacher but I did all her prescreen videos myself (so VERY amateur results)! As such, she did not fair well with her prescreens. She only passed two of them (great schools though - Pace and BoCo). She was very disappointed early on but luckily she is truly a phenomenal live performer so of the 12 live auditions she did at NYC and LA Unifieds, she felt great about all of them. Hopefully, LIU will not be her only option in the end, but she is very excited about her acceptance there!

@NeensMom, oh gosh, that’s scary! I am sure that your daughters acceptance to LIU is the first of many!! On the upside, I’ve heard it’s a terrific up an coming program!! Pace and BoCo are incredible to be able to say she passed their prescreens. I’ve heard they are very hard to get through. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

@Sonnie323 I sure will! Thank you! :slight_smile:

Congratulations to all those that have received their BFA acceptances. ? My D received her yes via regular mail for the BFA MT on 2/6. I wanted to update for anyone who is keeping track of this year or next year. Her audition was on campus.

For anyone who was already accepted to the school before the program… did the MyLIU site show an absence of an academic advisor, program, etc.? how did your student page update after you found out you were accepted? anything on this?

Any idea how many kids LIU Post is taking this year? My S was also accepted.

Hi, @bddub24 just checked D’s portal is absent of an academic program and advisor. Her student page did not update at all.

Also, does anyone know the “anticipated” freshman 2020 class size for MT and how many MT offers will be made? Thanks.

@PrettySharpMom – David H. told my D that the MT program was looking at a class of 40. She asked if that meant 20 girls and 20 boys, he replied something to the effect of “No…30 girls and 10 boys. Do you know how hard it is to find good MT boys?”

@stanfordai2019 Hmmmm- I had heard 80 from somewhere - can’t recall exactly where now. I am curious when your D heard this from him. I want to circle back and guess I will ask my kid to reach out again to ask some more questions to make sure we are fully vetting all the information again before decisions are made.

@StanfordAI2019 I love your sense of humor so I don’t know if your post about not being able to find enough good MT guys is truth or not. Yes, there are way, way, way more girls than boys applying for spots, but if he literally doesn’t think he could find 10 more great MT boys in a field of hundreds/thousands out there, he’s either looking in the wrong place or he doesn’t know what he’s looking for. Besides that another college (with a top 10 stellar reputation) says that they take more boys than girls because they say that there are more professional opportunities for men than women and they want to mimic that statistic. If David truthfully said that, I sure as heck wouldn’t want to send my MT boy to that school to work with someone with that kind of attitude! (and if it’s more of your humor, good one—you got me!)

@lovetoact, I was wondering about that too. I have a future MT guy. He’s a rising senior right now, and I think it’s hard enough to go through all of this, and then to know that one of his top picks is uncertain about finding “good MT boys”. My son is interested in many of the schools on Long Island at the moment. I hope that it’s just tongue in cheek.

@lovetoact @Ontheverge – fair enough. LOL. Yeah, that’s my D said. They spoke last week I believe. I was a bit surprised by the comment too. Not sure how much ‘he’ was kidding around, as I heard it second hand, but those were the numbers he quoted. BTW, I heard the ‘80’ number somewhere else too. Wondering if that’s MT and Acting together

Hi, @StanfordAI2019 yes the ‘80’ number represents the entire department 6 performance related majors/Freshman Class combined. (I have that in my notes as the total and 65 combined for all of the MT and the Acting students.) Perhaps a current/parent or a student knows the ‘breakdown’ for the BFA MT.

Very interesting. For those considering, ask some questions about the evaluation that happens at the end of sophomore year. A parent of a current student posted elsewhere that they have started doing this and counseling kids one direction or another. I don’t know much about it, but if we were going through the process now, I would want to ask some questions.

@Sonnie323 I don’t know if you’re looking at the LI schools because you’re local? If you’re not, I live on LI, went to Hofstra (not for theatre) and have two boys in college for theatre, so if you have any questions about this process or anything, feel free to PM me!

I am a bit concerned with potential financial issues of the school after reading an article stating that some departments will not be offering certain majors due to low enrollment. I know that is not the case for MT but the financial viability of the school at large does concern me as well as the students dissatisfaction with lack of adequate facilities. any info would be greatly appreciated, especially from Long Island residents. Like someone mentioned in another thread, I do hope LIU would consider collaborating with another training facility perhaps in conjunction with their Brookyn campus.

Just thought you’d all want to know, Dave treats the boys at LIU very well, there’s no worries there.
