I’ve been trying to find people who have kids at LIU Post in the MT or theater arts. D is starting in MT there this fall, and if there are LIU parents on CC, they’re hiding! Can anyone chime in? Experiences, good and bad? Advice? Anything?
@NewEngMTMom - last year when we were looking at LIU, @winnieroot was very helpful. Don’t know if they are still out there or not. In case you haven’t found this thread, it gives some good information and has some links to other threads as well. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1961538-liu-posts-mt-program-p1.html
@waitingforlife thank you for that information. Very helpful!
My daughter’s best friend from HS is a current freshman at LIU and loves it.I am sure he would be happy to connect and answer questions.
@Onourown that would be fantastic! Can I PM you my email address or something?
Sure!
My D just put her deposit down to attend LIU this fall. She will be Doing the BFA Acting program, so not MT but I think they would still be doing things together. I was trying to find students going so that my D can connect with them and hopefully be a little familiar with someone when she goes up for her orientation. And to help with possible roommates as well.
@BrokeDad0530 PM me your (or your daughter’s) contact info. My daughter would love to connect with more people.
Hi there,
My son just finished his freshman year at LIU. He likes the school and the campus. He loved his acting class and his teacher Dave Hugo is amazing. This is not an easy program and it is intense. Most students take more than 15 credits and have non credit contract hours in addition that are required. They are very strict about attendance and there is a TON of writing. Journaling several pages for every dance, Suzuki etc on top of projects and papers. The program is as much academic as it about becoming a great performer.
That actually sounds like an even better fit for my daughter than I expected! She looked he’s to read, understand, interpret … all the intellectual stuff that goes into theater. I am a little concerned that there is only one musical a year and only one voice lesson a week, but I guess that’s really about the same schedule she’s been on for years.
