Live Audition at Stanford..

Hello, I'm a rising senior planning to major in chem.

I'm seriously considering applying for Columbia or UPenn ED, but Stanford has always been my dream school. I just dont think I really qualify. Some people may say it wont hurt to take a chance at applying, but Stanford is single EA, and I dont want to take away any chance from me getting into Columbia ED, since I love Columbia just as much. It's just I'd love to stay in California.

So I'm just wondering, will a live audition with the viola help at all? My viola teacher claims it will, but if I'm not even majoring in music and if I'm auditioning for the sake of showing another talent, I think it might just be a waste of time and effort to practice.
He says that I wont go in unprepared; he can set me up with lessons from professors at Stanford and such, and he thinks I can stand out with an international performance tour I went on this summer and letter of rec from politicians, but I have a feeling they'll end up being cookie cutter letters

I was set on Columbia ED, but he's making me hesitate. Any comments?

THanks in advance :D
