Live music scene in La Jolla?

What is the live music scene in La Jolla like, or is there one? And how hard is it to get to concert venues outside of La Jolla without a car?

Thanks

all I know about is the Sun God Festival at UCSD which is supposed to be AMAZING.

I read about a place called the Casbah, which has hosted some really good bands in the past, and has pretty good prices. it’s about a 13 min drive from ucsd

UCSD hosts concerts from time to time at RIMAC and is apparently planning on getting more of 'em in the future. Most of the live music on campus though takes place at The Loft. They’ve got a good mix of indie and lesser-known bands passing through; check their website for details. There’s also the Che Cafe for bands too cool for a regular venue. The music department has a number of events with a relatively heavy modernist emphasis from time to time, some of which are free while others cost usually a pittance.

There’s basically nothing else within walking distance from campus (besides a few classical-ish shows at the Neurosciences Institute), though if you venture south towards downtown SD you’ll find plenty of venues for every kind of music. Student tickets at the opera and symphony are also ridiculously good deals.

Keep in mind that the Casbah, and many other music venues in San Diego are 21+. I’ve lived here for awhile, there are quite a few good live shows, but most of them are at bars. UCSD does have some shows on campus sometimes. Check out the Che Cafe on campus. If you’re over 21, the music scene is actually pretty good. Under 21, though? Not really.

Maybe I’m a little biased though. I moved to San Diego from Seattle 3 years ago, where there was a lot better music scene IMO. Of course now that I am older than 21 I don’t really care about whether things are all ages or not, but I was bummed when I first moved here.
