Live on-campus or commute, suggestions please

It has been discussed in few threads before. I will open my own thread since my situation is very unique. I was offered admission in the Honors College with a great possibility of doing the 7-year BS/MD program at UCF. My house is approximately 8 miles away from the campus. I was offered the Provost scholarship (highest one UCF offers) valued at $5,00 per year. The apartment life style cost me $9,000 for one year and $6,800 for nine months. I have strict dietary regimen so dorm food may not suit me. In essence, my scholarship money would not even cover for my living expenses.

If I choose to commute from home, my undergraduate education will be free. In addition, it offers me more benefits like home-cooked meals, my own luxury bed room, driving my own car etc. But I feel like that I am missing out on my college life. My undergraduate education will be only three years long. So what should I do here? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks much

I would prefer to live at home if I wasn’t stupid enough to live here just to “please my parents” and I guess conform to the norm… (I live 45 minutes away).

I would live at home if I were you. If you are doing undergrad in 3 years, you will really need strict focus and the dorm life might stray you from that. It’s funny how you go to a great school (I go to a top public u) and obviously everyone here was top 10%, if not top 5% of their high schools if not better - and then so many can barely pass classes.

If you’re only 8 miles away then yeah, I’d say commute. You’ll be saving a lot of money and will have be able to control your lifestyle more. Plus 8 miles is still close enough to be able to hang out on campus all the time :)
