<p>living on campus is a lot of hype, exciting at first but it does get mundane fast. save the cash and crash at the old man’s place and if you want to enjoy the social aspects of college go to games or spots where kids from your college hangout.</p>
<p>Whether or not it’s a good idea really depends on the particular campus.</p>
<p>I just find it odd that you’ll actually lose $44k for living on campus. I go to an university with the second highest dorm rates out of all the universities in the United States, and even here, it’s only $5000 more expensive to live on-campus vs off-campus.</p>
<p>You got to factor in increased costs of food and transportation when making your calculations.</p>
<p>For my particular situation, the most sensible option is to get an apartment very close to campus, but not live in an on-campus dorm. This way, I pay about half as much for housing while still getting all the social benefits by being in “the scene.”</p>
