Lived Experiences with Grade Deflation at T50s

Sorry. This is the best repository I’ve seen. Maybe @ucbalumnus or @jzducol might have better ideas. The person who runs that site sources them from all over.

I think the take home message is in the trend. Even GT and Purdue have trended up. Reed and HMC stand out for their remarkable consistency.

I just remembered another anecdote.

The year my son finished Cal Poly with a 3.7+, someone graduated from the College of Engineering with a 4.0. It made the news because it had been 10 years since it last happened.

Apparently 4.0s at HMC are about just as (un)common.

You can often find out quite a lot with a Google search . For example, a good grade distribution summary for Williams is at Grade Distribution AY19 (1) (1).pdf - Google Drive . It shows the average GPA for courses in each subject at each level, as well as the overall averages. In 2018-19, the overall average was 3.52, but low level intro psych lasses only averaged a 3.11. The graph below shows the how the average GPA has increased since 1953.

Thank you! Great info disclosed for Williams but Google isn’t as friendly for Swarthmore information, as far as I can tell. Could you let me know if you come across any recent info on Swat? Thanks!
