Does anyone here have their own apartment around campus? If so, are they accomodating and what are prices like? I live about 40 mins from College Park, so it would be a difficult commute.

From what I hear they're pretty pricey. I'm sure they're nice, though. Never been inside one but I've heard good things.

There's a huge after prom party in some alumni from my school's college park apartment lol. At first I thought how lame but then I realized he's charging.

Apartments are really expensive here.... a 1-bedroom close to campus will run you around $900/month. a 2-bedroom, usually around $650. Living in a house (sometimes people will advertise for an extra room...check the classifieds at www.diamondbackonline.com) is a little bit cheaper. If you're willing to live a couple miles from campus and drive or take the shuttle bus to class every day, that'll knock off $100 or so.
Living in an on-campus apartment is definitely the way to go, but impossible for a freshman.

Also, try checking the off-campus housing website (och.umd.edu) for listings.
