Living arrangements

My friends and I are (hopefully) incoming freshmen looking to live in a suite, maybe an apartment. My questions are the following:

Do the suite/apartments differ in price? Any estimates on price regardless?

Is there a suite that is not 24-hours quiet with cooking?

How are roommates chosen?

Is there any chance of being roomed with a friend in either the suite or apartment? (we're all going into science)

Do any suites have air conditioning?

One more question. Can I send more than the required amount of letters of recommendation? I have three from teachers, one from my guidance councilor. The teachers writing my letters are Calculus, Electronics and Physics teachers. If I am limited to one, could you recommend one to make me look like a better candidate for the Biomedical Engineering major?

Okay I have some pretty good news for you.

Almost ALL residence halls at SBU are suite style. I live in Tabler Quad which consists of five buildings. All five buildings are suite style consisting of 3 bedrooms and a living room and private bathroom, except for one building (Hand College) that has a kitchen instead of a living room.

The only residence quads that are NOT suite style are Roosevelt, H Quad, and Mendelsohn.

Oh and a side note, that cooking building is NOT 24 hour quite. I live in the 24 Hour Quiet building (Dreiser College) and we’re loud as all hell, they don’t really enforce it.

Roommates can be requested but typically suitemates are randomized. I dont think you get the option to request suitemates (only roommates) as an incoming freshman. That’s a priviledge you get later on.

Your major is completely irrelevant to your housing arrangements.

No, suites do NOT differ in price at all. If you live in the cooking suites, however, you are NOT required to be on a meal plan.

I would just recommend, if you really want to live with your friend, make sure you BOTH request each other on SOLAR in your New Student Preferences (AND MAKE SURE YOU CONFIRM THIS!!!). You have a fair shot of getting your request.

Yea uh…your definition of all is actually (1/2). The hallway style quads house alot more students than you seem to be considering.
