I’m currently 15 years old (will turn 16 in October), and my parents might be forced to move to the East Coast because of job problems. However, having just completed Sophomore year, I feel like having to transition to a new environment (switching schools, making new friends, adapting to new attitudes) may be detrimental to my academic progress (I currently live in Los Angeles and have a 4.3 GPA). Since junior and senior year are the most critical years of high school, I am reluctant to move and adapt to a new place. However, I feel mature enough to take care of myself and maintain my grades without my parents’ presence. So, my question is, is there a way in which I can live alone in my parents’ house in LA without their presence in the home? I’m getting my license as soon as I can, so transportation should not be an issue.
Parents/Guardians are responsible until you are 18.
You could pursue becoming legally emancipated. The minimum age varies state to state, but I think it’s 16 for each one. Really consider if this is the course of action you want to take, though.
will you have family/relatives nearby or a cousin who’d be willing to live in the house with you in exchange for free room/board?
