Living at Rutgers-Camden

Hello!

I live in NJ and will be applying to Rutgers-Camden. I live close to the campus, so I figured I would just commute. However, I've given some thought about living on campus. What do you guys think about this? I know all about the crime in Camden, but how is the campus itself? Safe I would assume (?).

Since most students commute, how is on-campus life? Boring, or generally OK? I'm not big on partying, but I would like to join a club or two and socialize with students on campus.

Also, is bringing a car a good or bad idea? Is it worth it? I would like to go into Philadelphia and have no qualms about using public transportation (PATCO, SEPTA), since I generally don't like to drive in the city anyway.

Thread bump!

Hate to resurrect this tread - Not one person has anything to say? I’m quite curious!

My son is a junior, lives on campus and loves it. He keeps a car on campus and it has been fine. The key is to stay on campus and to be careful wandering off, like north of the Ben Franklin Bridge. RU Camden is essentially a commuter school, with only about 700 residents, but they are building a new graduate school dorm for $55 million that is helping to change that. It is a small college, but being compact makes it much more liveable and provides a better sense of community. My son loves spending time in Philly, which is a great draw being so close. You could always give it try for a semester and see if you like it. Good luck and GO RU!!!

Thanks so much for your reply!
