Living in a Scholars Dorm(Centreville) as a Non-Scholar

Hi,

I was offered a opening in Centreville Hall. From what I read, this building is for scholars and my brother, who was in the scholars program(but didn't live on campus), said that all the scholars kids take classes together and go on field trips together so it might be awkward being left out. It's also a single so that might make it even more isolating.

Can I get your guy's take on it? Are there enough non-scholars for it to not be weird? I'm 50/50 on commuting and living in dorms, and I just don't want to be there if it's going to be uncomfortable.

I was in Centreville in Scholars my freshman year, and my roommate was non-Scholars. She didn’t seem to feel uncomfortable - she had plenty of friends on the floor, but her main friend group seemed to be outside of the dorm. The Scholars kids do take classes together (I’m not sure what program’s floor you’ll be on), but usually it’s only one or two a semester and the only field trip I can remember my program taking was Service Day. To be honest, the single will probably make it more difficult to make friends than being in a Scholars building.

Edit: there were also multiple non-Scholars people on my floor, so you probably won’t be the only one.

Thanks!

I sent an email accepting the spot, hopefully it hasn’t been taken by someone else.

There are lots of non-Scholars and non-Honors students in Scholars & Honors dorms. My daughter, who’s not in Honors, is at Ellicott with her Honors twin brother. Hope you get the spot you want!
