Living Learning Communities

I am thinking of applying to a living learning community for next year (my freshman year), and am wondering about the time requirements involved. Two in particular that I am thinking of are the Carolina Experience and Sustainability. Is there too much time required for a freshman trying to adjust to college classes and the workload, or is it not that big of a deal. I don't want to be overloaded right off the bat.

I also want the traditional "freshman dorm experience," and was wondering if I would still get the same experiences living in an LLC. I would likely get a nicer, newer dorm and a stronger sense of community, but would the experience be the same?

Also, how early must one apply to get in? I am not 100% on going to Carolina right now, and I need to send in the enrollment deposit before applying to the LLC, which I will probably do closer to the May 1 deadline. Could I still get in applying that late?

Thanks!
