Living Learning Communities

Hey so I'm at the stage where I'm picking my dorm and I'm not sure what I should do. My university has both regular floors and these "living communities" where your floor is suppose to be friendlier than normal floors I guess. I just need some insight if anyone has lived in one of these.

I live in a Living Learning Community and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. My LLC’s goal was to promote diversity and encourage dialogue about diverse experiences. You get a lot of perks such as having classes exclusive to your LLC. We even took a trip to Ohio and stayed at a very nice hotel. I made a lot of friends and we had crazy (sometimes a little too crazy) fun times. I think it’s a good idea to apply to an LLC when you’re a freshmen because it allows you to meet people and they always offer something for you to do. I noticed that the non-LLC floors were always antisocial and many of the freshmen who lived there were bored during their first few weeks of college.

The best thing living in an LLC did for me was that it offered a program exclusive to the LLC students that allowed me to do research as a freshmen AND get paid for it.

It might not be that way for you but it can’t hurt you to try it. And if you don’t like it, you’re not required to participate in any of their activities. I was afraid it was going to be “lame” when I first applied, but it was far from that. lol
