Living off campus, is Craigslist really a good place to find a room?

I want to save as much money as possible during my years at college and living off campus seems to be one of those ways. I checked Craigslist but I was honestly shocked and creeped out by most of the ads. There seems to be a lot of fishy stuff and scams going on there too.

Are there any better places to look for potenial roommates and rooms? Should Craigslist be avoided?

I think people really do use Craiglist…but also try asking the Housing Office what they recommend or if there is a FBgroup for housing on your campus.

Watch for scams.

ALso search “office campus housing ”…i see sites called theoffcampus dot com and forrent doc com

No to craigslist for something like this. See if your school has a jumpoffcampus link up.

Can you even live off campus freshman year? Check and see, some colleges don’t allow it.

My kids have used Craigslist multiple times to find rooms and apartments. I just found my new apartment on it. If something creeps you out, don’t answer that ad. But it is a very good source for places to rent.

Most schools have an off-campus housing site, which is a good place to start.
