<p>Next year my S is going to a a junior and he and some others are thinking about moving off campus and renting a house. This is all new to us, so how does that work as far as loans go, can he still get loans for housing and use it towards his rent? Would we just apply for a set amount and then divide it up?</p>
<p>My S is also moving off campus next year. The way it was explained to us…The maximum amount you can borrow for student loans is the COA - cost of attendance. The school figures in their housing cost into that formula. So…as long as your apartment cost the same or less than you would have paid for the dorm, you should be ok. The excess amount (over tuition & fees) will be returned to you in a check.</p>
