Next year daughter wants to live off campus. While in Tuscaloosa this past weekend we went to look at The Lofts. Didn’t have time to tour any others. If your child is living off campus and you don’t mind sharing info. I would like to know about other locations - the good, the bad and the ugly details. Thank you for sharing.

DD signed an app this week at East Edge. She wanted within walking distance. The rent was comparable to those that are further away without having to worry about shuttles or parking permits.

Earlier in the year I posted about The Woodlands here :

This article was in the Tuscaloosa News yesterday:

[Apartment complex officials push back on crime report | TuscaloosaNews.com](http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/20131022/NEWS/131029938/1007/news?Title=Apartment-complex-officials-push-back-on-crime-report)

If anyone has a link that is more complete for all of the nearby complexes that would be great!

FYI: At East Edge all those wanting a 4 bedroom are now being wait listed.

So, if they really need a 4 bedroom I’d look at other options.

It is always a good idea to have more than one option, but no need to panic this early. It is common for property managers to waitlist potential residents until rooms are available, but they also like to hype the panic so people will make a decision quickly. Current residents have until the first part of December to renew. Rooms will likely open up at that point. Keep in mind that being on the waitlist now puts one ahead of anyone who is not when a room opens up. Two bedroom units will be the most difficult to find at EE since they only have 7 total. It is definitely time to begin identifying and narrowing down options for off campus housing though. Of course if you find what suits your needs, then there is really no reason not to sign a lease now while it is available and you have roommates nailed down.

You may want to check out the website offcampushousing.ua.edu. We have more than 300 properties listed, as well as subleases and off-campus roommate profiles.

Also, the Off-Campus Resources staff in our office are making presentations in the compass courses, as well as several programs around campus.

On Nov. 4, there will be an event called Rental Life 101, with presenters from our office, Crimson Choice, and Rumsey Properties. You can find out more info on our website calendar.

There will also be programs within several residence halls that will allow students to get advice and information about transitioning off campus.

Hope this helps!
