living on campus vs. off campus

i got accepted to chapman university's schmid college. its my first choice and im so happy! i got a $15,000 but its still too expensive to live on campus! i live about 16 miles away from the school so i think its possible for me to live at home. but i dont know if its worth living at home to go to chapman. as much as i love the school i feel like ill be much more limited at home. so my questions are, panthers:
1) if i live at home, will i miss out on anything?
2) for those of you who did live at home, were you on campus most of the time or only during classes?
3) i have an offer from whittier college with a much bigger scholarship. if i got to chapman and live at home it will be roughly the same price as going to whittier and living on campus there. which do you think is a better choice?

thanks panthers!

Congratulations saharshahidi! Whether to drive or to live on campus, that depends on what fits you. It would be wise to talk to your parents first if they are paying for your education. The purpose of living on campus the first year is to get acquainted. If money is an issue, then you might want to live at home the first year. That will help you save money on housing and meal plan. If you choose to live on campus, you can save money on gas plus mileage on your car in addition to saving time by not commuting. If you leave your car at home, you can also save money on parking by applying for a parking fee waiver. Perhaps you can team up with friends after your first year to rent a house near the school, that should help.
