So I live in New York City and I have not yet accepted Barnard’s offer of admission but I plan to attend. However I don’t know if I should live on campus or not due to financial issues. I want to live on campus to get the whole college experience. I’ve lived a pretty crappy life in terms of social bonds formed with my high school classmates and I would like things to be different in college. I’d like to get a boyfriend and to make long lasting (real) friendships (all of which I didn’t have during my 4 years of h.s).

I know that this is a decision I would ultimately have to make for myself, but do you think it’s worth the expense of living on campus (considering my financial package)?

Here’s my financial package:

Budget Total : 56,358
Total Resources: 10,100
Need : 46,258

Total Grant: 40958
Total Self Help: 5300

Barnard Grant:33,675
Pell Grant :3,500
TAP Award :3,033
Federal Academic Award: 750
Work Study :1,800
Subsidized Stafford Loan : 3,500
Total Awards : 46,258

So I should live on campus? If I don’t live on campus I’d be paying the same amount as if I was living on campus? I just need to confirm this … I’m really paranoide.

If you do NOT live on campus, Barnard will reduce the money they give you, according to Calmom (and she is most always correct!) by about $10,00 and you will STILL have to pay for housing off campus, which will be very expensive.

So, yes you should live on campus (unless you have a free place to live somewhere in Manhattan or very near there).

If I don’t live on campus I’d live at home. I’m just trying to see if the calculations make sense for me to live on campus. Since living on campus costs about 12000 and they will reduce the grant by 11,000 I’m guessing that I would be paying the same about anyway. I just need someone to confirm, based on the aid given and the amount I have to pay now, that I will not benefit (financially) from living off campus.

???Help I really need it As soon as possible.I just need to make sure before saying I’ll go…
