Living on North Campus as a freshman

Hi everybody!

I'm new here, and I need your advice. My roomate and I got into the Graham dorm for this coming school year through the lottery. I feel very fortunate to have received to have received such a convenient location in a historical and fully refurbished dorm. My roomate feels that we will be missing out on the first year experience by being away from the South Campus dorms where all of the freshmen stay. Are we really going to be isolated from our cohort and feel rejected by upper classmen, as he fears? I would appreciate any insight!

Thanks.

No, you won’t be rejected by upper classmen. People are really friendly here. I lived on north my first year and made tons of upper classmen friends, and also found my self trekking down to south many evenings to visit new first year friends. Personally I liked some separation from the first year scene by living on north campus. I could experience it (or not) based on my terms. The closeness to classes was great and the ability to frequent Davis to study also helped my academic transition into UNC.

Thank you for the input, NewYawk!
