I think that’s the number they’re trying to end up with in the class, not the number of acceptances. At least that’s the way I read it??

You are correct. For 2020, acceptance rate was 46.9% and for incoming 2021 it was 50%.
The yield (number of accepted students who enroll) was 18% last year.
So if they are trying to fill 1500 slots this year (less than in the past, with yield of 18%, they will need to accept around 8300 of those projected 19000 total apps. Which would mean a 2022 acceptance rate of about 44%.
Sorry to get all nerdy on the math, but I don’t want anyone who was ‘deferred’ to think they only have a 7% chance at this point. Send them your (hopefully) stellar mid-year grades and pray for the best!
