For future year hopefuls
1 For most people on the forum the status update email was received at 3:05 pm PST. Assume the portal was updated at same time. Date: 12/17/2021 ( Friday)
2. My status update email was received at 3:24 pm PST ( 12/17/21). I checked the portal a but later to see my acceptance.
3. Dont read anything into the many emails that LMU sends prior to the decision date.
4. EA Decisions are typically released on the Friday of the week after 12/15
And just to add, some like myself, didnât receive an email at all.
Did you check your spam folder? I am sure you did.
So keep checking CC forum on expected decision day. When others post decision, go check your portal tooâ:smiley:
Any advice for what to do if deferred? The deferal letter said to be sure to have school send fall semester grades, but should S22 write a letter to admissions stating that he is really interested in LMU and give more evidence than he already gave in his Why LMU essay?
Absolutely. Definitely write an LOCI (letter of continued interest) highlighting any additional reasons he wants to attend (and any ânewâ accomplishments that werenât already included in his application). This is what college counselors have recommended to us.
Really no way to answer for sure. From their website âWe invite persons of diverse in talents, interests, and cultural backgrounds to enrich our educational community and advance our mission of the encouragement of learning, education of the whole person, and the service of faith and promotion of justice.â
So depending on whether or not he made a point of highlighting his work for voting rights (which absolutely ties in with âpromotion of justiceâ), his story as presented may not have been tailored enough to the profile they are desiring.
Only other thing I can think of would be if he chose note to upload a portfolio and otherâs applying for film did. But I think you already indicated above that he did in fact submit a film.
Thatâs me just grabbing at straws on a strong candidate profile. Deferred is not the same as a rejection. If this is truly his top desired school, Iâd have him call admissions and respectfully ask if there is any supplemental materials they would find useful for making a final decision.
Deferred is not a rejection for sure. Submit additional accomplishments, letter of continued interest and finish fall semester strongly.
Hopefully, this will help get an acceptance in spring

Thanks! He wouldnât have much to add at this point, so maybe he could wait until spring to write his LOCI. Or maybe just write a general one now and then supplement in the spring.
My son was accepted too for engineering. 3.97 UW GPA, 4.33 weighted, 7 APs, 2 honors, and 2 college courses. 1390 SAT. Main ECs were sports (club and high school) and deep interest and accomplishments in high powered sport rocketry (also did theater and has a job).

Got accepted. International student with 1520. Got biochemistry. You can call me on WhatsApp 0550757530. I just hope I get a full tuition scholarship else I wouldnât be able to make it. I am from Ghana. Please help me as a brother. Love you all
My son was accepted for screenwriting! Very exciting.
When you applied was your film different from the chapman prompt? I have a theory that those who weâre well qualified but deferred for film production seem to have all used their Chapman prompt film.
My Daughter used her Chapman video and was accepted. Interestingly she was deferred from Chapman. Her stats:
4.0 UW/ 4.8 W
8 APâs and lots of Honors Classes
ECâs in Journalism, Theatre, and Student Government
Lots of Community Hours
She is also a Legacy at LMU which I donât know if it factors in too much but important to know
Iâm so sorry for all who were deferred. It was really painful when my daughter got her defferal from Chapman but I truly believe wherever you are meant to go will reveal itself and you will thrive there. Good luck to all of you and know your hard work will pay off wherever you land.
For those of you studying film and tv (particularly screenwriting), Iâd be curious to hear your thoughts on Chapman vs LMU. My son, amazingly, now has the option of both which we didnât dare imagine before this last week. Perhaps it makes sense to ask this on a different thread though⊠thanks in advance.
