Does anyone know how many LMU film school students were accepted Early Action or Early Decision for admission Fall 2018? I believe notifications were sent in December 2017. I heard many students were deferred to general admission. thanks!
My son was deferred from EA to the film school.
Same for my son. Maybe that is common practice as it takes longer for them to review the film school portfolios. Thanks!
My son applied EA to the film school (focusing on Animation), and was accepted, but I read on one of the other LMU threads that the Film School has about a 20% acceptance rate.
Hello, did your son receive an acceptance letter in the mail, or just notified via email?
Sorry, just saw this! He found out via the portal, and received an acceptance letter in the mail as well.
has anyone that was deferred from EA film production at LMU heard back from them? We were deferred from film production and told we would hear back by April 1 but I’m reading other threads where some have been accepted. I’m concerned if we don’t hear back by April 1 that he was accepted that no scholarship money will be left.
I was deferred in ED for Animation and got my acceptance email March 2
My daughter applied RD to Film and hasn’t received any decision yet. She just gets 1-2 promo emails every week.
My S applied EA for screenwriting and was deferred. We haven’t heard anything since. He also gets the promo emails almost daily. I’m hoping we’ll all hear something soon.
agreed - frustrating to get daily promo emails and not get the decision email that is the most meaningful. My son submitted his application in mid-October and we are still waiting five months later.
We were just at LMU yesterday; the admissions person leading the opening segment said that all students will be notified by April 1. Hang in there…just a few weeks left. I know it is stressful; my S is still waiting to hear from one last school before he makes a decision and at this point, we all have a bit of nervous stomachs waiting for the final decisions to arrive. Good luck to all!
thank you for the update - really appreciate you passing that along from your visist! Most were saying that LMU is rolling admissions so we thought notifications would come sooner than April 1. However that’s only a few weeks away so not much longer to wait:).
@Oreo30 Any news yet? I saw on Chapman thread your S was accepted there as well (just found out last week my S was accepted there for Animation and Visual Effects, but he prefers LMU because of its closer location to L.A.). Where else is your S looking? Mine was accepted to Bradley for their game design program, and waiting still on USC (but we know that is a super long shot for him). My S is going the route of animation/game design. How about your S?
D got email to check yesterday 7:15 pm. From other threads on CC, everyone (including my D) who were notified last night were waitlisted for Film Production.
Thanks for your note. My S first choice is Chapman as he loves the campus and the professors he met. He will be majoring in film production, which has a higher rank than LMU. He learned this week that he was not accepted to LMU. We were hoping that would be another good option. Makes no sense as his stats were very high and he had great recommendations and one from a Professor who is an alumni of LMU. My son has
been accepted to several other great schools with highly ranked film schools so we are very thankful he has great options. Good luck to your S and wish him the best at the school that he chooses. LMU has a great
campus and reputation. Also think hard about your S attending Chapman - only 45 minutes from LA and nice that it is away from some of the crazy
@Oreo30 Darn, I’m sorry to hear that! I was interested in having S check out Chapman more (I was really the one who pushed him to apply there too in case neither LMU nor USC worked out; USC was a “no” to S, we found out yesterday), but he is a no go. He knows several friends from his high school who attend and love LMU (one in film production), and loves the location. I know he also has been thinking about how he would get back and forth to an internship if he went to Chapman as we have no interest in letting him take a car to school, and are encouraging public transit for any trips he makes around L.A. We live in Minneapolis, and couldn’t agree more with your “some of the crazy” term…it is definitely not my scene out there! Where are you from?
We live in NC so this will be quite an adjustment for our S and our family but we are ready for him to take the plunge. This is his passion so he needs to be where he can flourish. Hope your S enjoys LMU. Some of the CC threads have said LMU was not very generous with financial aid this year so hope your S received a good package. We didn’t get as much financial help from Chapman as hoped but it will definitely help.
Absolutely agree…so great to encourage them to follow their dreams. I can’t believe that S has so many friends whose parents want them to to certain schools because the parent went there, or wants them to pursue certain majors. Life is for living and to try to repress what your child wants because it’s not your dream for them is really hard for me to understand. We actually received more from LMU than Chapman, so that was another factor in his decision. We sat down last summer, explained what was in his college account, and then said that if he chose to pursue a school that wouldn’t be fully covered by that amount, he would be responsible for loans, savings, etc., to cover the difference. So he paid attention to what he received from each school with a good deal of interest :))
I still haven’t found out
