Is anyone else applying to LMU this year? I've seen similar threads for other colleges; perhaps this can be a "home base" for all of us interested in LMU.

I usually have a fixation on one college at a time. Earlier this year, it was Northwestern. A few months ago, NYU. However, the more I think about it, the more I like LMU. It's a nice school in a media city; I like Los Angeles; it's Catholic, so my parents like it; and I think I have a realistically decent chance of getting in and being able to afford it.

My only regret is that I didn't take a tour when I was in LA, but it looked nice from the road and from the air while taking off.

My S will apply I think, we visited when we were in LA, we are from the East Coast. We really liked it. Nice looking campus with this round library that overlooked the City. Nice medium size. We are wondering what kind of merit $$ S can receive as the COA is high. They are rolling admission, right?

It has a beautiful campus and an excellent curriculum with teachers devoted to teaching. The only problem for me is, as a science (Biology w/ Pre-Med track) research is very important and LMU seems to be lacking in that part. Also, the tuition scares me a bit. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I’m applying as well! I’m originally from Los Angeles, but I’ve been living in Phoenix and I’ve always dreamed of moving back. Looking at Pre-Med but majoring in finance/minor in Spanish. Good luck to everyone!

I am pre med too. I wanted to ask, what attracts you to LMU as a pre-med major? Have you found out anything from the school pertaining to research, hospital volunteering, or school admission?

I want to go there too, but I am scared it doesnt offer eneough for a science major (I know your not a science major)

I’m applying to LMU! I’ve never visited, but I plan on visiting within the next few weeks. I’ve heard great things about it. I’ll let you know what I think of it.

I’m applying as well! I visited all the way from New Jersey last month and I loved it. Just a little fyi…Alex Trebek and his family were in my tour group. I hope I get in!

I was attracted to LMU mainly because of the location, not only for sentimental reasons, but also because it’s in the heart of a huge city, which allows for internships and research opportunities. Even if it’s not through LMU. My dream medical school (UCLA) is minutes away and I’m hoping to do some research or summer classes there.

I hear admission isn’t ridiculous, but it’s not a piece of cake. Are you applying via Common App? It’s by far the most detailed supplement that I’m filling out. I’m a first generation American/first generation college student/Hispanic/Jewish though, so hopefully that might help me out a bit

Where are you from? What other schools are you applying to? I haven’t heard anything unusually stellar about the sciences at LMU either - but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I’d rather be near the top of my undergrad class at LMU than be struggling at a tougher school like USC or UCLA.

The Supplement Essay for LMU is pretty detailed. But I’m very excited. LMU is my #1 school. I will be applying to the production major in the school of film and television. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

I’m from Pittsburgh, PA but I was born in California.

^ Oh, good! There’s alot of film majors here – you’ll be happy! (Alot of East-Coasters too!) I’m so glad I don’t have to explain myself anymore when stating I’m a Screenwriting major, haha. There’s also considerate networking going on here, it’s stunning. I hope you get in!

I visited it on Friday too along with USC. I liked it, too, and I certainly like that it doesn’t have that frat feel of USC. I had a lot of fun in LA this weekend and can see myself living there for four years.

My only concern about LMU is that it may not be strong enough in journalism, which is what I am interested in studying. LMU offers a “certificate” of journalism, but I don’t quite understand what that means, and nobody I asked was quite sure. Does anybody on here know?

Son is thinking about applying to LMU and majoring in engineering. Anybody have any idea what the engineering department’s reputation is like? We visited there summer and it was beautiful.

Thats a good question^, I have been checking this forum for new posts but not much luck!

Son is a HS Junior, wants to be a teacher, and I believe LMU is a good school for that, however, he has also started to show interest in Engineering. Wonder if he goes into one stream and wants to change tracks, could he still do it over there.

I visited LMU over the summer and, at the time, it was my top choice.
(However, I changed my top choice to Occidental College because you are required to live on campus. My parents really, REALLY, want me to stay at home, so I think if I was accepted to Oxy I could finally experience the dorm life I want.)

I still kind of consider LMU my top choice, it has EVERYTHING I want in a college, and I think I have a chance of getting in.

I’m applying EA as a production/film major, but plan on double majoring in a science. Anyone have any ideas on the supplement we have to submit for the film major?

Also, I’m applying to Oxy as an ED, and I know since I’m applying ED they’ll notify other schools I’m applying to that I’m applying ED… will this effect my chances of getting into LMU?

[I’ve lived in SoCal all of my life, and I’m a 2nd Generation Mexican. Only my dad has gone to college.]

I’m applying to LMU! It’s a huge reach for me but I might as well give it a shot. I wonder if they put a lot of weight on the essay. That should be one of my strong points of the application.
I live all the way in Pennsylvania so hopefully that’ll help a little.
I’m applying EA as an electrical engineering major. Nice to see that there are some other prospective engineering students here. Does anyone know anything about the program?

i have a friend who is at LMU as a mechanical engineering major, and he says that it’s SO much work. he doesn’t have time to party or experience campus life. he says its worth it though and he loves it, but it seems like he has no life outside of studying…just a heads up haha.
