LMU|LA 2015 Applicants

what did you guys get on your ACTs? The range on college board says 24-28 but I was wondering what other kids have gotten that are applying this year. I got a 24 on mine and have a 3.3 GPA, any response on if you think I could get in?

My daughter is a Freshman at LMU and is loving it. This is huge because out of the 10 schools she applied to, LMU was her 9th choice. There were several reasons for this; to close to home, didn’t enjoy the first tour we took, etc. but, frankly, a major deciding factor was a fantastic scholarship she was awarded from LMU. She has a wonderful roommate, a beautiful dorm room, small class sizes with teachers who actual teach and seem to care. My daughter is very happy with her choice.
Several things I want to mention to prospective students and their parents.

  1. LMU was literary the very last school we heard from. Be patient.
  2. We have since learned that LMU is very high on volunteer and charity work. They like to see a “well rounded” student. Fortunately, our daughter had a lot of both.
  3. Talking to other parents of admitted students we have learned that LMU not only has a number of scholarships but they are not as tight with the financial aid as a lot of other schools. In other words, don’t let the high cost scare you.
  4. Finally, every letter, email or contact we have had with the school has been very positive. From the acceptance letter on, the school has gone out of its way to make the student feel wanted. As my wife said after going with our daughter to orientation, our daughter wasn’t accepted, “she was chosen”.
Good luck to all who apply.

Thank you for the posts ^^, I have been checking this forum for feedback. S2 is very interested in LMU. S1 goes to USC, so the proximity will be helpful.

He is interested in Education major as well as Mech Engineering or Physics.

Nice to hear that San Diego. Son is interested in LMU, USC, and SCU - we may have to go with the best financial aid award.

Our kids have same likings Sarsfield!!

My daughter is interested in applying to LMU as a Studio Arts or Graphic art major.
Is anyone familiar with the strength of the Art/Design major?
Also, I am concerned about my D being comfortable/accepted by other students as we are not a religious family. Actually, she is not even a Christian. We took a tour last summer,
gorgeous campus by the way, and our guide said all religions welcome, “even Buddhists”.
Can anyone comment on the truth of this? Also, we are a liberal family and my D attends a very liberal and open high school. Do you think LMU is a somewhat conservative institution?
Just want to find a good fit for my D… thanks.

I applied to LMU Film Production in mid October and on MYPAW it shows my application is currently under review. Their website says early action decisions start rolling out Nov 1 and are completed by Dec 21

Daughter is a freshman coming from very liberal high school - LMU is more balanced politically but she finds it no problem. They have lots of social justice opportunities and like minded kids.

Has anyone heard back yet? I applied film production and my status is currently under review. Their website says they should have all mail docs matched up with online files by today (Nov 15), so I would expect decisions to start coming out soon.

I also applied for EA film production! LMU is my 2nd choice and I seriously can’t wait to get a decision back!!

How did you guys get on MYPAW or whatever?

you should get an email from LMU a week or two after they have your completed application with directions on how to set up and log in to your account. You go through MyLMU.

Comments on EA and Science research

This is what a friend got - kid applied EA end of October, got the letter yesterday, accepted ‘Honors at Entrance’, top 5% of app pool. BUT that doesn’t mean she got into the Honors program, she will be invited to apply at a later date.

For those who are interested in research, check the Southern California Undergraduate Research seminar at Pepperdine this weekend. Quite a bit of undergrad research going on at this school. See the ‘posters’ and ‘abstract’ links.

I emailed my admissions counselor to ask about something related to SATs. They answered my question and said “we are currently reviewing your application and will have a decision for you shortly” I guess the time is coming soon, odd b/c I didn’t apply till Nov 1.

My status changed today to “admitted” and I’m a film production major, so that probably means they’re rolling out these acceptances now. I started a new thread here for acceptances.

I was deferred…well not technically because it’s rolling. They are asking for 7th semester grades…which won’t be out until the end of January/beginning of Feb, which means I have to wait until like the end of April to find out.

3.5 GPA
1930 SAT
Sports, film awards, work, President of school tv show, lots of other ECs for those who want to judge chances.
5 AP
12 Honors

ahh i haven’t heard anything from LMU yet and I applied in early October!

I applied as a screenwriting major and I’m still waiting on the decision

Accepted with $3,330 merit. Good luck everyone!

My son was accepted today! Applied regular action.

My son got his letter today. He was going to apply Early Action, but got hung up on the supplemental essay question. He submitted his app on January 15th. We were pleasantly surprised to hear so quickly… now just need to wait til April 1st for financial info.

Good luck to everyone!
