LMU Merit Aid Notification??

SO my son received his acceptance letter from LMU last week, but not one mention of any Merit aid (we wont qualify for need based aid) - If there was no mention in the acceptance letter, can I assume there is no Merit aid coming our way? Surprised, as my son has a good GPA of 3.4 coming out of a rigorous Jesuit HS, with very good ACT scores.

What were his ACT scores?

Have any of the students on the LMU forum reported getting merit?

“Meanwhile, the Financial Aid office is working on getting the need based (FAFSA based) financial aid awards ready to be sent March 30, and the Scholarship Committee is working on identifying the Regular Decision students who will receive merit based awards (Early Action merit awards were sent to most qualifying students in late December). These Regular Decision merit based awards will also be sent April 1, in conjunction with the need based awards for students who are eligible for both, and by themselves for students who qualify for merit aid but do not apply for need based aid.”
-from an email i got from LMU after i was accepted for RD the end of february

Thank you so much - very helpful. LMU does it very differently from other schools, who usually tell you your Merit Aid with your acceptance letter. Thanks again

I dont’ know what your son’s ACT is, but his GPA is quite low for the school.

About 60% of incoming frosh (many from strong Catholic preps) have GPAs above 3.5. Nearly HALF of the frosh (48%) have GPAs that are ABOVE a 3.75.

If your son’s ACT is above an ACT 30 and he had a better GPA, then he may have gotten merit. His GPA and possibly his ACT may be the problem.
