LMU Merit Aid

@22jewels, it came in email. and @Tennisgirl12 yes, honors at entrance.

@bsmom123 What day is the scholarship weekend?

It is Sunday Feb 21 and Monday Feb 22

Wow that’s going to be crazy!- that’s LMU’s parents weekend.

Maybe that’s why it’s starting on Sunday? Is that parents weekend for current students?

Yes it’s parents weekend for current students. My older one attends there now and went to Presidential weekend a couple of years ago. They do Sunday-Monday so that they can sit in on classes on Monday.

@22jewels since you’ve been through this, do you know how many are invited and what to expect?

The year we went I think 100 or so were invited and about 80 attended. I think they did it differently- they had interviews to award the presidential and trustee scholars.

I was assuming there would be interviews this year, but have no idea.

@bsmom123 @Tennisgirl12 What were your stats?

@bsmmom123, did your letter indicate the type of scholarship - i.e. was it for a Presidential scholarship along with an invite to Scholars Weekend? Thanks

@PhunnyMoney it didn’t say. It said we would be notified on Monday about what she already got and that if she won more on the scholars weekend it would be updated. @anothermuggle to answer your question…she was about 2250 and 4.0 unweighted with 15 honors/AP/IB classes. Tons of athletics and extras.

My daughter got a letter via email on Friday night. “Scholars Weekend will also include an opportunity to interview for a range of our most prestigious scholarships, including the Trustee Scholarship, which covers full tuition, room and board for all four years of your undergraduate career.”
35 ACT and 4.0 uw. Full IB.

It’s all there this morning! Had been a bit worried since S didn’t receive an email, but he got an Arrupe award of just over $29k, plus the EA award and another one, also renewable, for $7400. Looks like LMU is getting another look for sure! So happy for him!!

$19,000 merit aid plus a generous grant and work study brings my total aid to about $36000. Very surprised by how much need based aid I received. Very excited that LMU is now affordable.
2120 SAT, 3.83 UW GPA.

@CAMidwestMom and @anothermuggle were either of you invited to Scholars weekend as well? Those are great awards.

No scholars weekend here.

@CAMidwestMom My dd received an invitation to the Scholars weekend, but her Arupe Scholarship was significantly less than yours. So in the end, you might be the lucky one. Do you mind me asking about your son’s general stats? We did choose to do FAFSA or CSS so we know this will be it, unless increased during the weekend event.

I did fill out the Fafsa but we don’t qualify for aid either. I did it in case he wants a student loan. We also would have a pretty hard time coming up with our full EFC, so the merit is make it or break it for these schools. He has a 4.0uw gpa. He had good ECs, yearbook editor, boys state, nhs, model un etc. Where he has struggled is the test scores, 1920 SAT. He does have honors and AP classes, so hopefully the rigor of his classes showed he can handle the work. Not sure how much it matters, if at all, but he is coming from a Catholic school.

It was my impression that the merit would be increased on that weekend, only the level is up in the air. I think/hope you will get great news then!!

no scholars weekend - I think my merit award was determined in proportion to the amount of need-based aid I qualified for.
