I must make a decision by May 1st. These are my top three colleges that I’ve been accepted to. I’ve also been accepted to Saint Mary’s and Cal Lutheran.
I am going to be majoring in business administration in all five colleges with an emphasis in marketing and potentially entrepreneurship if the college offers it. I am leaning mostly to LMU right now because they offer entrepreneurship (#7 in the nation for this program!) but I’d like to still look at all my choices.
I’m looking for a campus with a diverse, friendly crowd. I’ve heard that LMU is the strongest in this category. I would just like to get your guys’ opinion on all of these schools I’ve listed.
Are finances a concern? Net price at each?
@newjerseygirl98 Finances are somewhat of a factor but not a determinator. I would defiantly like a few grand since these colleges cost so much. I’ve got 10K at Chapman, 14K at Saint Mary’s, and 23K at Cal Lutheran. I’m still waiting for LMU and USD.
I’d like some more information on the people at these campuses and which school has the best program for marketing/entrepreneurship. I’d also like a school with a lot of internships offered.
Thanks for your help!
I think USD is the best school. I would wait until you have all of your financial letters, though.
@aaronm7wong have you visited the schools? The reason I ask is because these are very different schools from an environment and social perspective. Based upon what you want I’d choose LMU or UCSD. I am not familiar with Saint Mary’s. LMU is in the heart of Marina Del Rey and is accessible to internships in many parts of LA, especially Santa Monica. Chapman then Cal Lutheran.
@Vermont2016yikes thanks for your help. I have visited all of the colleges accept Cal Lutheran which I do not plan on going to. In fact, I’ve narrowed it down to LMU and USD. Both have excellent business programs but I want to know the kind of people that attend these universities. Like, does one school have more stuck up people or is one campus more friendly to minority groups? Just kind of a summary of the vibe of the schools.
@aaronm7wong unfortunately I don’t know anyone that went to UCSD. I do know several people at LMU and they like it and say it is very academically challenging. I think it is a friendly campus and I doubt anyone would be unfriendly to minority groups as it has a large LA population and LA is diverse.
@aaronm7wong I’m in the exact same boat as you. Got accepted into my top 3- Chapman, LMU, and USD. Ruled out chapman and deciding between LMU and USD. Looking to major in marketing/entrepreneurship. I’ve toured both and loved both schools. Overall USD has a slightly better business program, but LA has more internship opportunities, and has an entrepreneurship program unlike USD. I’m very torn but leaning towards LMU at the moment. I would love to discuss with you!
@aaronm7wong By the way I got 10K at Chapman, and 23K at Cal Lutheran too. I applied to LMU early action and got 6,600 a year plus a 2K early action award for my first year. Haven’t heard from USD. I’m assuming our stats are close to the same.
Beware that USD is NOT UCSD (for posters who seem to think it’s the same thing).
Chapman and LMU are the best academically and for business.
USD has a reputation of having a lot of rich, white kids - their Financial Aid is very stingy, somewhat explaining the reputation. The business school is good but not worth paying a premium (unless you are looking for that environment). USD’s business school, Chapman’s, and LMU’s are roughly similar in rigor, but the rest of the school is stronger at Chapman and LMU.
You shouldn’t look at the scholarship but rather at net price.
To find net price, do
(tuition+fees+room+board) - (grants+scholarships) =
Thanks everyone for your help on making my decision.
@missungaro Looks like we are looking for the exact same thing. I am about 99% sure that I will be enrolling in LMU. Yes, although I’ve heard that USD’s business program it slightly stronger, LMU has everything else I’m looking for.
Did you check out LMU’s M-School program? It’s an upperclassmen program for marketing majors who work closely with companies in the local area. I believe it’s like halfway between an internship and a course, but it’s a program unlike anything I’ve researched. Here’s a YouTube video you can check out to get more information:
