Hey guys so I sent my application in to LMU a few months ago. However, if I do get in, I am not very sure If I would enroll. I will be studying business and my big concern is that is doesn’t have all that good of a reputation. I plan on living in LA after I graduate, because I want to be a talent agent. Does anyone know if LMU has a good reputation for hiring in the SoCal area? Again, I like the school but I am worried that it just doesn’t have the name, and after I graduate, I might be in trouble looking for a job. Another college, that I applied to was University of San Diego. Now this is in San Diego, but it does have a very good business program. Would this be a better bet for me? I am just not sure. I would really appreciate it if you guys could shed some light on LMU’s reputation in LA!!! Thanks.
lmu has a better business reputation than USD as well as better job placement and location for internships, etc
I think they are both reputable schools for business. In my experience in the business world however, employers are more focused on your experience, drive, and creativity rather than the school you attended (unless you are trying to become a world renowned surgeon or something). So I would focus on chossi g the school that has these things 1. Affordability, 2. Internship Programs, 3. Job need
LMU might have a slightly better internship program but depending on aid, but are private uni’s affordable to you with $25,000 to $60,000 a year in loans? This is up to you and whether you have that financial support through merit-aid, federal aid, and of course parent financial support. Personally, I’m an independent student with no parent support so LMU’s financial aid package was not enough for me to justify going. Im a low-income transfer (junior standing) and I still would have come out with $60K+ in loans and personally for me that just isnt an option (I really hope that it is for you though) (60K for 10-15 years at 7% interest and like $500 a month was not going to happen for me). However, if it is your dream school there are ways to make LMU or UCD happen. I also know there is only a certain amount each year that students can take out in federal loans (ranging from $5500-$7500 depending on freshman through senior status). So if federal loans, work study, grants, and scholarships dont meet the cost, you’ll have to find other ways to make that happen.
Of course Im aware you werent really asking about finances so I apologize for getting off topic a little. I think both are reputable schools and they cost about the same so it comes down to what city you want to live in (you said LA) and what cities are doing the most hiring. I think as mentioned by the other user, LMU's intership program might give you more opportunities because LA is willed with many well-known Business Head Quarters like Buzzfeed and Make A Wish so there may be a better chance at finding a job in that area. Plus you want to live in LA so it's best to start establishing yourself in that area as soon as possible. Best of luck to you!
