Well I'm a junior, and I know a lot about colleges. I've been working on a list of schools for months...and now I'm only 6 months away from actually applying. I really don't have much time, so I'm trying to arrange my list. I've realized that SDSU and LMU are my least favorite options (althought I really do love them both). However, they could easily be my only options, so I'm trying to figure out what school would be best for me.

Obviously SDSU has a more lively social scene and better athletics/school spirit, and that is very important to me.

But is LMU way better academically? I know being in LA and with LMU's frat scene, I won't have any trouble having fun. And LMU does have some pretty strong sports and a great rivalry with Pepperdine.

I plan to major in something business/communications and eventually work for some company in the entertainment industry (like MTV or E!)....So do you think LMU offers more?

I don't really know, bc I've always heard SDSU has a great business program. I also prefer SDSU's size to LMU's, but that won't affect my decision.

So I want your opinions. Do you think LMU is a better option for me? Can LMU live up to SDSU's athletics and social life?

I'm visiting them both real soon, but I still want my question about the two answered. So if you have any insight on the topic, feel free to respond.

Is money a factor? LMU is MUCH pricier total cost of attendance the SDSU.....and that's something you should really consider & discuss with your folks. It's better to have more than two schools on your list, especially these days when it's tough to know how admissions decisions may turn out. I believe LMU is about $45,000 or so/year, which if you're in-state, SDSU is probably about 1/2 of that. Of course you have to mulitply that by 4+ years to get your degree.

I've visited LMU & found it beautiful. My S saw it is way too small and refused to apply. A friend's son is graduating in engineering & didn't find the faculty that stimulating in his major, web design. Other friends whose kids attended LMU seem pretty satisfied there, tho some say it's a bit small & tough to get around without a car, since it's up on a bluff.

My "S" applied to SDSU as a business major and is hoping to attend in the fall. My understanding is that SDSU's business program is really, really good. I've never heard of LMU--perhaps because I don't live in that area. I'd be willing to bet you can get a fine education at either so why not go with the one that will save you some money?

If I get rejected from UMiami and UCSB. They could be my only options because my the other schools I should get into are OOS, and if I don't get any aid, then I probably won't attend. (Indiana and ASU).

As for SDSU it is my instate safety and it will basically be free. And LMU meets about 90% of need, and gives out strong grants....also I can get state grants.

I don't think I will because your gpa is higher than mine, and I read you didn't get any money.

But anyways, my gpa is only a 3.5UW and I'm expecting a 1350 (I'm taking it in March). If rank means anything...I'm around top 7% out of 650.

I was wondering if ASU gives out need based university grants, bc I want to atleast narrow the gap between ASU and SDSU.

If I decide if ASU is worth the extra costs, I will attend....but if I don't I will probably be deciding between SDSU and LMU (Which is why I started this thread)

Ok then, we'll just see when you apply! If you apply early (which I am COMPLETELY assuming you will, remeber, you can apply in july!), you'll probably be more likely to be offered a scholarship than any other time.

Thanks for your opinion. I know I shouldn't even think about SDSU vs. LMU, because I may never have to compare them.

Oh well, let this thread close.

christalena2 - I will apply July (which you seem to already know I will). Your lucky, bc you love ASU more than any school and you knew you would be accepted.

I wish I could say the same about UMiami (but I don't really know if I will get in).

Yea I am lucky, I love my large, public university. haha. Definitely not in it for the prestige. I was more excited about getting into the honors college than anything, one of the better honors colleges for state universities like ASU.

Wish you luck, you still have a little while to go, but you should fill out all the applications on paper, and then just transfer your info into your online application so it will be an easier process. I know you don't need an essay for ASU, but you should begin writing essays for the schools that use them, they will help a lot in your admissions if your grades are so-so.
