So i have narrowed my colleges down to two, Loyola Marymount University and UCI. I am planning to study Accounting or Civil Engineer. I am not sure which one to pick to pursue my major. I need to pay around 12,000 for LMU and 6,000 for UCI for the first year. I prefer Loyola Marymount because UCI is a very homogeneous school. Is Loyola Marymount better than UCI because it is a private? Should I pursue accounting rather than Engineering? Should I just go to LMU and get my masters from a more prestigious shcool? Please help me.

I think you should pick LMU. I think they are probably on the same level. Pluses for LMU You are more likely graduate in four years easier to get classes
College experience vs commuter school
Personal attention professors will know you better good for grad school better recommendations
Location is great
major is your choice…what do you enjoy the most

Both are very good schools.

When you say that UCI is homogeneous, are you saying that the school is largely White and Asian? Are you feeling that UCI lacks diversity and URMs?

What is your family saying about paying the difference in cost? If they are totally fine with paying $12k per year for LMU, then go there if you feel that there is more diversity there.

UCI’s freshman class is historically 55% Asian. White is 2nd, at about 25%.

@Yenmor Thank you for the advice. I really Calculus but I am not sure what requires Calculus other than Engineering.

@mom2collegekids Yes, I am. I do believe the lack diversity. I had an experience with one of my asian friends that made me think twice about UCI. My dad is willing to pay for the first year of college but after that he is not sure if he will help me but in order to pay I must also work and I am okay with that.

@DunninLA Thank you for the statistic.
