LMU vs University of Washington

I am trying to decide between LMU and UW at this point. I am interested in studying computer science. Finances are not an issue. I live 30 minutes from Seattle and would like to get away. I also prefer LMU's campus to UW's campus in addition to the small, intimate classroom setting. However, my only concern is that UW may offer a better education than LMU. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

WashU is way more competitive.

I’m a student going from high school in Seattle to LMU, but my sisters went UW.

They said UW’s computer science is one of the strongest department they have. Not only they do studying they do all sorts of fun and cool stuff, I heard.

I don’t know much about computer science, but I know LMU also has interesting computer engineer program. (LMU seems to have strong engineering programs.) So if you are into engineering, probably LMU would be good school because I heard they do a lot of hands-on projects. (which means physically building stuff)

I don’t know detail in UW, but both of my sisters said everyone in UW at least take one semester of computer engineering or computer related science, because they are really cool.

I am not an expert, but hopefully that helped.

I have gone to both schools, I actually transferred from LMU to UW. I also live about 30 minutes away from UW, and it seemed way too close to home when I transferred. Also, it wasn’t the right learning environment for me because the classes (especially the lower division ones) are huge and you don’t really get to know your professors, you’re encouraged to go to your TAs. I really liked the small and interactive classes that I took at LMU; you get to know your professors and you never have TAs. Also, I felt much safer on LMU’s campus and it was easier to meet people since it’s a much smaller school. My classes at LMU were not easy, but I don’t know much about their computer science program so I can’t speak much about that. LMU’s campus is absolutely gorgeous and there is a lot to do around the area.

^^I am applying to both LMU and UW (from UC Merced) what were your reasons for leaving LMU?

I wanted to study more Japanese and I had already completed all of the classes they offered at LMU. Although I loved LMU, I always wanted to go to a school that had school spirit and fun athletic games to go to, which is something I got at UW. But overall, I liked LMU more than UW.
