Loa

I received an LOA a few weeks ago. Once I complete the requirments specified on the LOA when can I expect to recieve the formal addmissions "stuff". I know it depends on when my file is complete but lets hypothetically assume that I finish it today. Thanks.

The MOC's must nominate you and the Medical needs to process you, so if you finish the app, you'll have to wait on those things... Once those go through with the thumbs up, from what I here, you get the acceptance right away. This is what's great about USMA's rolling admissions.... once you're file is complete, it is reviewed instantly and they can offer a slot to you quickly, provided that you are what they are looking for.

I got my LOA yesterday! I realize that it may be controversial, but I think that it is a good system, and the earlier the better. First of all, I am now much more motivated to train- if I didn't find out until March, my ramp up would have to be much shorter. Second of all, it is hard to not know anything about your own future! Before, I was just looking into a complete void- Would I spend at least the next 9 years in the military? Would I go to civilian college? Would I get the chance to prove myself in one of the most challenging settings of our time? Now that I know that this door is open, I feel much more comfortable with in depth thought about the future.

Congratulations vballgirl10!

I received my LOA a few weeks ago, finished all paperwork, passed CFA, received nomination, and medically qualified. Does anyone know when the formal offers of admision start going out?

You already recieved a nomination? Nice work!

its presidential... service connected

RahRah: So the answer to your question on Saturday is - you will find out Monday!

Congratulations!

I know all you kids without LOA's and those with LOA's who don't have service connected nominations are getting antsy - RELAX!!!
The class won't fill in October! Hang in there!

I just thought about something terrible. If you have a service connected nomination, does that mean,... I should send in my app as soon as possible before rolling admissions will exhaust the 100 candidate quota?

Early is always better than later.

Are you waiting for some specific reason before you send it?

One thing candidates should remember is that WP measures a candidates interest by how soon they return their application packet. That is why LOA recipients are given a fairly tight window in which to complete their application packet.

I'm going to really work on the application as soon as take care of the last senator app. Sounds pretty sorry doesn't it. I'm hoping to mail my usma app by the end of October.

Can anyone tell me how many people received the Presidential Nomination last year. How large is the average pool?

I have the exact LOA scores in my possession

LOA scores?
What do you mean by that?

My s rcvd his LOA/appointment letter today dated 10/23/07. I guess we should call our congressman and cancel our interview so someone else can have a chance at the nomination.

Did your son receive a Letter of Assurance (LOA), or a Letter of Appointment? Does your son already have a nomination from another source (i.e. Presidential)? If it's a Letter of Assurance, your son must have a nomination and meet any other outstanding requirements (medical qualification, for example) to eventually receive an appointment. I wouldn't cancel unless it's an appointment letter, or unless your son already has another nomination.

I believe its an appointment letter, even though somewhere in a paragraph it mentions this letter of assurance can be withdrawn if all it not in by a certain day.
It states "the admissions committee has recommended you for an appointment to USMA". Its reserved upon completion of his candidate record and statement (which got to USMA the day this was sent out), and thats all it says we need. He does have a presidential and passed his physical and all.

We're pretty excited!

It sounds like a LOA, not an appointment, but since your son has a presidential nomination, and is triple qualified (I assume), an appointment should follow once all of the other file completion criteria are met.
Congratulations!

My twin brother just received LOA last week! I am happy for him but also jealous at the same time. I am still confused about LOA. I know it's a guarantee spot to West Point, but he still has to go through interview for nomination and stuff right?

yes, It only assures you a spot if you are nominated. It is "assuring" to know that if you go through all of the trouble to obtain a nomination, you are gauranteed a slot, as opposed to those who get a nomination and are still not admitted. A nomination is only the legal A-OK (approval) for an academy to accept you.
