Wow. If you get an LOA and if you have a Presidential Nom, you're all set.

i got my appoinment a few days ago... anyone who is going to be in the class of 2012 message me or something to talk or whatever haha... i guess

Son got a letter today that is not an LOA...bummer. I think it is a YFICL (your file is complete letter). It just says they have all his application info (they didn't have DODMERB yet, but we got it), and is qualified in the areas they did have on file. So, good news is he's officially triple qualified...not so good news is apparently his file isn't strong enough to warrant an LOA. He's flying up on Thursday (their nickel, not mine) for a visit...maybe after they meet him and are charmed by his winning smile they will be compelled to issue one. Haha!

Remember that a lot of candidates are accepted without an LOA, and just being triple qualified is an accomplishment.

As for the flight out to West Point on their nickel, how does that get scheduled? I'd absolutely LOVE to head to the Academy and see it first-hand. Was it scheduled because he is being recruited as an athelete?

My situation: I have everything required sent in. I mailed the last peice of the application on 31 Oct 2007. It was my candidate statements. They recieved them and have it recorded on my file. The problem is, on 29 OCT 2007 I sent in my candidate activities. I also faxed them on that date to MAJ Freds. Unless there was a mail SNAFU, they should have recieved it. And again, I did fax it (but only Hard Copies are recorded). Because my LOA extends to 5 Nov 2007, will it be stripped of me because they have not recorded it, or will it be counted because it was post-marked before 5 Nov 2007? I called MAJ Freds and left him a message, but I was not able to check to make sure they recieved it.

mom3boys: don't worry that your son does not have an LOA - good things happen in time!

inhibitor: yep her son is a blue chip recruit - flew up on the coaches dime.

If you can swing it at all I would highly recommend you getting out to West Point for a visit this winter. Well worth the $$$.
You should be good with your application. They won't rip the LOA out from under you!

Getting West Point to invite me to the academy is the only way my mother would let me hop on a plane and go visit. I'd do it in a heartbeat though.

Seriously? Will she mind if you attend there?

No, she said that she would allow me to attend the academy if I was accepted. I wanted to enlist on my 17th b-day, and she denied me. My dad followed her lead in telling me that I could not enlist. She is very protective, I'd say I live a somewhat sheltered life. But she has talked to me and said she would let me attend the academy if it was my choice.

The reason why she would not let me go to the academy without an invitation is because she would not be able to go with, and it most likely would affect school. My family is scheduling a trip to WP in the spring to check it out. But I'd absolutely love to see it now, and see it from a different perspective than just the candidate tour.

Inhibitor,

Honestly - I would say you are on track. Visit with your family in the spring.
The BEST perspective to see USMA from IS the candidate tour. It is excellent.
As a candidate with an appointment (or LOA) you may do the overnight.

You will see the Academy up close and personal. More than the visitor center and bus tour. Your family will be given a nice tour as well.

Got the itinerary today: staying w/ a cadet, lunching w/ coaches, attending class, going to practice, rutgers game, meeting w/ admission reps...very busy! He is so psyched!

Heard from MOC's office...they usually have 20-22 apps...this year they have 44...are only considering students for one academy, so s has to make some big decisions asap. He called the navy coach and asked if he was a serious recruit there, too. The guy is so laid back! He said getting the nomination wasn't the biggest obstacle (but didn't mention what was!!). He did say he'd try to find time to bring him up sooner rather than later. Son is pretty psyched about WP...he'll be high as a kite when he has his interivew on Saturday!

Good luck to your son. He's gonna LOVE the Friday night football game -- the corps really gets wound up at those!

Yep and the game is on national tv - ESPN2!

He is gonna forget about Navy! ;)

JAM: that would be ok IF he was making a decision based on facts; this will be strictly emotional...he has to go to NAVY and visit so he can make an informed decision. Ultimately, he could be happy at either...he needs to be thinking after the fact...and that's hard to do when you are 17...it's hard to think beyond next week! It's a good position to be in ....nice to be wanted. Army is doing an excellent job of recruiting! You'd think he was a starting quarterback...not a lowly water rat!

mom3boys - I completely understand - just trying to be an Army cheerleader here!
Good Luck to him!

I'm in the ending process of applying to the United States Military Academy and I just took the CFA. I think the major weakness within my application was the lack of sports involvement. I've been playing hockey for an intramural team and an organized league because it wasn't offered in my high school. Had my interview with the admissions representative and it went great but she said I would have to score well on my CFA to somewhat make up for the lack of varsity athletics. I am a male, below are my final results:

Basketball Throw: 76 Feet
Cadence Pull Ups: 16
Shuttle Run: 7.44 seconds
Sit Ups: 96
Push Ups: 77
Mile Run: 5:56

I've looked at the averages and I fall above them. Not sure what USMA usually accepts, "score wise," concerning the CFA. Can anyone help?

West Point does not publish it's CFA scoring system. Your CFA results look good.

Good luck!

I would be willing to bet my Jeep on that being a passing CFA score. I hear that 3 pull-ups for guys is the min. my WP admissions Officer said get under 10 sec in the shuttle run and i'd be fine, and a previous cadet took the CFA and was in the high 7 minute range and was accepted. My thought is that they compare the results and find the medians and averages and then accept above a certain percentile.

What state are you from?

I'm from North Carolina.
