Loads of questions from an International student; Help???

Hi, my name is Shannon (haha, if my username didn't already give that away...)

I'm a student currently in Singapore, taking the SATs in May. (SAT Basic Resoning tests) I was also planning to take Math, Chemistry somewhere in June (?) (or possibly in November.)

I was just wondering,

When would be about the latest to send in my college application letters to Universities in the US if i wish to enroll in 2011, and stand a fair chance? (since there are a couple of dates for regular applicants, i think?)

How and where would i obtain the appropriate application forms to mail the respective universities?

Could I apply with just Basic Reasoning Tests, or will I have to do SAT Subject Tests as well? (from what I've googled, 2 seems to be what most of the top universities require?)

What universities would I likely be able to enter if i get about 2200+ on the SAT and have a couple of ECs like Band, with some awards, section leader etc, represented school in mock united nations, and was in Fencing and Debate team in junior high and was also in Math Olympiad?

What volunteer work or interning could give me a boost to enter the top 20 universities? (i was thinking of volunteering at our local equivalent of ASPCA for the whole of June)

When asked of GPAs etc, what would i fill in? (we don't have that system of GPAs here)

Lastly, what are "Decision Notifications"?

I am looking to do Economics as a major, if it helps..

Thank you very much for you kind help,
Shannon
(I hope that was coherent, its 3 in the morning and i am crazily tired. Sorry there were so many noobish questions, i don't have anyone else to ask..)

the deadline this year was, for most places, January 1st

most schools use the Common Application (google it), but all schools will tell you how to apply on their websites

you will have to do subject tests for most schools, and just so you know, Harvard requires 3 (again, most schools have all this info online)

have a look around this site

do whatever you enjoy, that’s the most important thing

you will have a different form to fill out which probably will not ask for GPA (I can’t remember if mine did) and if it does, you can leave that blank and send in a transcript along with your application

that means the letter/email you get telling you whether or not you got in

these were mostly questions to which you could have found the answer:
a) in your brain
b) on the schools’ websites

shannonz,

You should take your questions to the International Student Forum. You can reach it by clicking on “Discussion Home” in the upper left of this screen and then scrolling down.

You also need to read everything (and I do indeed mean everything) at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) Then you should make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to you. Here is a link to the office in Singapore [EducationUSA - Center Profile - United States Education Information Center (USEIC)](http://www.educationusa.info/centers.php?id=1152) The people there are experts at helping students like you find good places to study in the US.

dreaming92: thanks for the information. I tried googling some of the bits of info, eg. “decesions notifications what they are” etc and nothing telling me what it was came up. As for scholarship info, i’ve asked around and i’ve had friends who have got into good schools and scholarships without taking SAT subjects, hence the questions.

“happymomof1” thanks for the info, sorry for posting in the wrong place. I found the site on google and just got more confused. All is well now. Also, thanks for the links to the various sites :)
